Mary Catherine Mueller, Ph.D., holds the position of Teaching Associate Professor of English in the Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She serves on various committees and advisory boards, where she seeks to help foster open communication across universities, academic networks, and nations. Mueller teaches Holocaust Literature, Critical Reasoning and the Holocaust, and other courses in the English Department and Writing and Reasoning Program. Her research is interdisciplinary and multifaceted, considering a panoply of perspectives regarding the representations of the Holocaust, Antisemitism, and Holocaust denialism, in literature, art, culture, and society. She also researches various pedagogical approaches to effectively teaching Critical Reason and the Holocaust and Holocaust university-level courses. Mueller’s academic research and publications include scholarship that analzyes how the Holocaust is represented in various literary genres, from Holocaust memoirs to poetry written by children during the Shoah, to the short story genre, as addressed in her scholarly book, The Holocaust Short Story (Routledge, 2019).
From Dallas to Los Angeles, London to Jerusalem, Dr. Mary Catherine Mueller has presented her research to scholars, educators, and Human Rights advocates throughout the world. Whether teaching Introduction to Academic Writing, Critical Reasoning and the Holocaust, or Holocaust Literature courses, through her teaching and scholarship, Mueller hopes to introduce students, scholars, and readers to authors who may in time become their teachers, to ideas that may broaden their perspectives, and to discussions that may challenge their long-held presuppositions or help them solidify what it is that they believe.
