Dr. Brenda Helen Sheingold is the Division Director for the Healthcare Administration Programs and Professor in the Department of Health Administration, Policy and Informatics.
She was awarded a dual-titled PhD from George Mason University (GMU) in Public Policy and Nursing, and a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business, where she also earned a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Leadership and Change Management. Her undergraduate degree is in Nursing, and she practiced as an Emergency Department nurse for 20 years. Dr. Sheingold helped pioneer the role of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) to provide medical forensic care to survivors of sexual assault.
She received national recognition in 2026 from the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) by winning the Quint Studer Gratitude Prize for Teaching Excellence.
Since Dr. Sheingold accepted an appointment as the Division Director, George Mason’s MHA program has won multiple nationally competitive awards from the Commission on the Accreditation of Health Administration Education (CAHME). The most recent Innovation in Healthcare Administration Education award was conveyed in March 2025.
Dr. Sheingold is a recipient of the 2026 ISGAP Faculty Fellowship Training Program: Combatting Holocaust Distortion and Global Antisemitism.
