Priv.-Doz. Mag. Dr. Hüseyin Çiçek is a scholar of religious studies, political extremism, and transnational ideological movements with a particular focus on Islamism, antisemitism, migration, and minority politics in Europe and the Middle East. He completed his Habilitation in Religious Studies at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2021 with a cumulative thesis examining religion, violence, minorities, and the geopolitical challenges of modernity. His research combines perspectives from religious studies, political thought, contemporary history, and extremism research.
Dr. Çiçek has published extensively on Turkish Islamism, Diyanet and DITIB structures in Europe, the Islamic Community Milli Görüş, Turkish-Islamist and far-right extremist formations, and antisemitic ideological networks within transnational contexts. His work particularly examines the intersection of religion, identity politics, authoritarianism, and ideological forms of exclusion.
At the Pädagogische Hochschule Weingarten (Weingarten University of Education), he is actively engaged in teacher education and the development of critical approaches to historical consciousness, antisemitism prevention, and democratic education. His current research focuses on Holocaust distortion, Islamist antisemitism, and the transformation of antisemitic narratives within educational, political, and digital environments in German-speaking Europe.
