NEW YORK – The Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP) today mourned the passing of Abraham H. “Abe” Foxman, one of the most influential and respected figures in the global fight against antisemitism and hatred.
A Holocaust survivor, human rights advocate, and longtime leader of the Anti-Defamation League, Foxman dedicated his life to confronting antisemitism, extremism, and discrimination in all forms. Over decades of public service, he became one of the Jewish world’s most recognized moral voices and a leading advocate for the security and legitimacy of the State of Israel. He also served as a member of ISGAP’s Board of Directors, where he brought wisdom, gravitas, and an unwavering moral compass to the Institute’s mission and work.
Dr. Charles Asher Small, Executive Director of ISGAP, said: “It is with profound sadness that the ISGAP team mourns the passing of Abraham H. ‘Abe’ Foxman, a towering figure in the global fight against antisemitism and the demonization of Israel. Abe was more than just a human rights and Jewish communal leader. He was a living testament to the resilience of the Jewish people and the moral imperative to confront hatred wherever it arises.
His early experience as a hidden child during the Holocaust shaped the man he would become: someone who understood, at the deepest possible level, why in the fight against antisemitism we must remain steadfast, especially in the contemporary context. For nearly fifty years, Abe dedicated his life to that fight through the Anti-Defamation League, helping build it into the world’s foremost authority in combating antisemitism, bigotry, and discrimination.”
To ISGAP, Abe was a key member, mentor, and guiding force. He gave generously of his time, his experience, and his heart, inspiring our team to pursue our work with rigour and courage. The Jewish community, the human rights community, and ISGAP have lost a guiding light. May his memory be a blessing and a call to action for all of us who carry on his legacy and never tolerate the intolerable.”
ISGAP extends its deepest condolences to the Foxman family and to all those who were touched by his leadership, friendship, and legacy.
