March 31, 2014- The Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy announces that Director and Founder, Dr. Charles Asher Small, is set to present a paper on antisemitism at the International Forum on Genocide, in Kigali, Rwanda, at Parliament taking place April 4 to 6, 2014. The conference is termed, “After Genocide: Examining Legacy, Taking Responsibility.”
Dr. Small will deliver a lecture at the Rwandan Parliament which is entitled, “The Threat of Contemporary Global Antisemitism: A Response to the Demonization and Incitement Against the Jewish people and Israel Within the Academy.”
“In 2009, after completing a speech about international law and manifestations of incitement to genocide at the United Nations in Geneva for the Durban II Conference, a group of Rwandan diplomats and scholars approached me and invited me to coffee,” Small said. “The Rwandan diplomats and scholars were very much concerned about the future of Israel and the dehumanization by radical Islamists and the Iranian Regime against the Jewish people, and wanted to know why the American Jewish community were not as alarmed as they were.”
“The Rwandan group implored me to tell the Jewish community, its leaders, intellectuals, professionals, and policy makers that the Iranians were using the same tactics against Jews, as the Tutsis had suffered in Rwanda, which was similar to the Jews during the Holocaust. There is a deep bond between the Rwandan people and the Jewish people, born in the shared experience of tragedy.”
The International Forum on Genocide commemorates the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda, enduring challenges of justice, education, and reconstruction by creating dialogue between leading human rights legislators, diplomats, regional delegates, and scholars from around the world.
Dr. Charles Asher Small is the Director of ISGAP and the Koret Distinguished Scholar at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He founded ISGAP in 2004, and moved it to Yale University from 2006 to 2011. In 2012, ISGAP established itself as an independent research institute headquartered in New York City.
ISGAP runs academic programming at Harvard University, Columbia Law School, Fordham University, the University of Miami, Stanford University, McGill University and Sapienza University in Rome.
