Haras Rafiq is a founding Director of CENTRI – an organisation that specialises in countering extremism through consultancy, training, research and interventions. Prior to this, he was a co-founder and the first Executive Director of the Sufi Muslim Council. Haras was appointed to the British Government’s task force after the 7/7 attacks, investigating the UK government’s response to the London terrorist bombings. He also studied ways in which extremism could be countered, in addition to becoming a peer mentor for IDeA- advising regional government in devising and implementing strategies to combat extremism.

Regarded as an expert on extremism, security, counter terrorism and faith issues, Haras has presented at platforms such as Universities, Think Tanks and community events, as well as debating various people on mainstream national and international media (BBC, Sky, Voice of Russia, Channel 4). He features regularly as an expert social commentator on programmes such as BBC The Big Questions, BBC News, Sky News, and others.

He is an ambassador for British Islam via the UK government’s “Projecting British Islam” initiative. He is also on the North West board of Mosaic, an initiative initiated by HRH Prince Charles, which specialises in mentoring youngsters to become contributing members of society.
