ISGAP Certificate Program in Critical Contemporary Antisemitism Studies

Major issues in Contemporary Antisemitism

This series aims at discussing with the participants the major topics which are currently at centerstage of the attempt to understand antisemitism and to struggle against it. The struggle uses a number of tools, one of which is the Working Definition of Antisemitism. It is essential to begin by pinpointing its origins, current status and uses, and the way it became a center of academic and political debate. Then a discussion of antisemitism nowadays will follow, not per se but as an outcome of the global new division into two political and economic world blocks. No less important are the new technological online developments, which spread antisemitism much faster, and more remote from truth than ever. A third troubling issue is the question, whether a distinction between antisemitism and anti-Zionism still exists, or did recent developments turn anti-Zionism into a form of antisemitism. Finally, ignoring the October 7th massacre and rapes, as reflected in international responses, brings back the tools developed following the Holocaust and its denial, and the possibility to use them, even though these are two events far apart.
